Traditional Bone Mouth Shar-pei
This page shows photos of Shar-Pei
which we think are closest representation of the type
originally found in the town of Dali.
Care should be taken when we mention the word "traditional" because during recent time, there were two period of mixing of genes with other breeds.
- "The Grand Mixing" in Hong Kong from the 1960's to the 70's. This was a period when shar-pei was still known in English as "Chinese Fighting Dog" but was created by crossing with
several other breeds including Boxer, Bulldog, Bull Terrier etc.
"The Great meat mouth gene flush" into Dali in the 1990's. This was a period when large quantities of meat mouth was shipped back to Dali in order to "improve" the breed.
