What do you mean by "traditional" type Shar-Pei?
Traditional type simply means what it is originally found in its place of origin, Dali, a town in southern China in the province of Guangdong.

Is Dali and Dailek refers to the same place?
Yes, in Putonghua (mandarin) language, the town is pronounced Dali, but in local Cantonese dialect it is pronounced Dailek. Depending on the translation, the Cantonese pronounciation can be written as Dailet, Dailek, Tai Li, Tailek, etc. but they all refer to the same place.

In Chinese, all are written the same way but pronounced differently according to the local dialect. That's why one news paper in one writing can be read by people all over China. Each place only read it differently.

What is bone mouth, meat mouth?
In southern China in Cantonese dialect, colloquial saying of traditional Shar-Pei is bone mouth. With the introduction of American type of Shar-Pei back into Asia, the local people differentiate their original type from the American type by calling them respectively bone mouth and meat mouth.

What is correct Shar-Pei tail?
Important and correct description of Shar-Pei tail you can find at Shar-Pei Wikipedia page. There you can read ..."the tail is thick and round at the base, tapering to a fine point" (AKC standard February 28, 1998)... This you can find at the beginning under "Appearance" section. This is a very important, but often ignored feature. The website of Shar-Pei Club Hong Kong has a good set of pictures from different Shar-Pei tails.

Shar-Pei - to be or not to be -- that is the question
Many answers to Shar-Pei questions we asked often is quite clear laying in front of us every day. To be or not to be -- this is the question! The most famous quote from William Shakespeare`s Hamlet is just one example.

"Allegory of the cave"
The message is that people refuse to see things under the sun. People become slaves themselves living in a cave prefering to believe the shadows on the wall as the reality they prefer to believe. After reading this you might see the Bone Mouth / Meat Mouth Shar-Pei discussion with other eyes. Allegory of the cave you can find also at Wikipedia.
